[The Power of Slowness through Hatha Yoga: The Story of Mr. Kyu-Hyeok Kim]

Mr. Kyu-Hyeok Kim teaches Hatha yoga at Jamsil Swara Yoga and is also a yoga instructor for Mr. Positive.

We introduce Mr. Kyu-Hyeok Kim, who continues his slow but steady growth, believing it's a process of self-discovery, much like holding Hatha yoga poses for a long time.

Q.

Hello, teacher. Could you please give us a brief introduction?

A.

Hello, I teach Hatha yoga.

I'm Kyu-Hyeok Kim, teaching morning and afternoon classes at Jamsil Swara Yoga Studio.

I look forward to your support.

Q.

Nice to meet you. Actually, I've been meeting you every morning with my sleepy face, and being here today feels a bit nerve-wracking for me, haha.

I'll try my best to guide our listeners to truly feel the charm of yoga.

First, for our listeners who may not have experienced yoga, I'd like to ask about this. What is Hatha yoga that you're practicing?

A.

Hatha yoga emphasizes the harmony of yin and yang.

Simply put, you can think of it as the yoga of the sun and moon.

The sun represents 'Ha'

The moon represents 'Tha'

The main feature of Hatha yoga seems to be holding a single pose for quite a long time.

On the flip side, flowing slowly and gently requires a great deal of strength. So, I would like to recommend Hatha yoga to those who want to understand their bodies better.

Q.

The yoga practice you lead seems to have a longer runtime compared to others.

Please introduce the reasons and the points you consider important in your classes.

A.

To awaken physical awareness, I have longer warm-ups.

Initially, I offered 60-minute classes, but since those attending are mentally armed, I felt 90 minutes was needed.

At first, it seemed like a lot of stimulation was needed for guidance, but now in a world full of stimuli, it wasn't so easy for the body to reach that point.

So, based on that experience, I think my teaching methods have changed a bit since last year.

Nonetheless, I still believe that I can convey what people desire.

Q.

At the end of a yoga session, you've given some remarks.

On certain days, you said, "Have a day where you give yourself a lot of credit,"

I've had moments where I wondered how much credit I give myself in my daily life.

A.

But this is quite true.

In doing something, saying "try it" seemed easier.

"It's okay" seemed more difficult.

Thus, for beginners, we need to use more empowering language than just saying it's okay.

Instructors truly wish for all members to reach a comfortable point.

Q.

We'll end today's episode here.

Thank you for being my yoga teacher and please continue to teach yoga for a long time.

I hope that through me, no one fears trying it.

To instill the thought, "LinkO is doing yoga lately, maybe I should try it too," I sometimes expose some of my activities.

I hope today's story shared by the teacher gives courage to many new beginners.

Thank you sincerely for joining us as we conclude this episode.
