Fitness My Way Was a ‘Journey’
The Wellness Found in HYROX & Dubai Marathon|Meetup Podcast vol.24 with Taegyun
When you've been exercising for a long time, you start to wonder.
“Why do I workout?”
And as you dig deeper, the question changes.
“How does my desired life connect with exercise?”
The guest of Meetup Podcast vol.24, Taegyun, provided a very clear answer to this question.
“The process of finding the life I desire, that journey is wellness.”
In this article, based on Taegyun's story,
we summarize the keywords: Fitness My Way, routine, rest, and ‘community’.
1. Why Exercise Like an Athlete If You're Not One?
When people first see Taegyun, they often assume he's an athlete.
However, Taegyun majored in political science and diplomacy, and he's not a former athlete.
He did, however, run short distances in elementary school,
and says he always had a lingering desire to become an athlete.
After his mid-20s,
as exercise evolved from a mere hobby to an immersive realm,
he began to train “like an athlete” in his own way.
Meeting moments where past regrets don't linger as regrets but transform into life energy
2. It’s No Longer Just “Workout,” It Started to Be “Training”
Taegyun used to think of exercise merely as “workout,”
but his perspective changed while doing HYROX.
He realized the importance of body management,
felt that rest needed to be part of the routine for performance,
and started planning (cycling) exercises as training.
Now, it’s not about
“having to do it every day,” but rather, “resting well to do it better.”
3. Not in the Mood to Exercise? The Answer Was Textbook Simple
When asked how he gets through days he doesn’t feel like exercising,
Taegyun answers very plainly.
Just go
Prepare your workout clothes the night before
Keep track because it’s a shame to break the habit
“Even just go for a shower and come back”
And... buy pretty workout clothes (laughs)
I realized again that practical measures are stronger than flashy secrets.
It’s about designing your environment and routine rather than relying on willpower.
4. A More Important Routine Than Exercise: “Time to Talk with Myself”
What Taegyun values most outside of exercise is
“time for self-reflection.”
Instead of constantly filling his mind with inputs (reading, content, stimuli),
he purposely empties, organizes, and outputs,
changing his routine in that direction.
This ties into the definition of wellness.
“The process of finding my true self, that journey is wellness.”
Physical, mental, and relational health
are just tools to help that journey, a saying that left an impression.
