[Meeting with Lululemon Educator, Ye-Rang Lee]

Ye-Rang Lee is someone who works on their personal growth without setting boundaries on running, CrossFit, or Hyrox.

Let's hear the workaholic Ye-Rang's story as a Lululemon Educator.

Q. Hello, Ye-Rang. Please introduce yourself briefly.

A.

Hello, I'm Ye-Rang Lee, a Lululemon Educator.

I'm used to supporting others during these shoots, so being in the spotlight feels a bit new and nerve-wracking...

Q. No need to be nervous, haha. I'm looking forward to having an honest and sincere conversation with you.

You recently participated in your first Hyrox, right? Did you complete it successfully?

A.

Yes, I completed it, haha. Though it was a team race, and I might have done less than those doing singles or doubles, I gave it my all.

Q. But what impressed me was what you did just the week before that event?

A.

I'm the kind to start things impulsively and then fix them... I also ran a half marathon.

Q. Right? What did we do the week before?

A.

Haha... I ran a 10km marathon.

Q. So we see you as a true fitness enthusiast, truly passionate about it! Now I'm curious about your views on wellness. What does wellness mean to you?

A.

Well means doing well, right?

In Korean, there's a difference in meaning between 붙여서 잘하다 (do excellently) and 띄어 쓰는 잘 하다 (do well).

The first, 잘하다, means to accomplish something greatly, perfectly, or excellently, and is commonly used in the context of work, like saying, "You're doing well at work".

The second, 잘 하다, used in questions like "Did you get to work well today?", simply means things went smoothly without issue.

Personally, I lean towards the latter definition of wellness.

To me, wellness is just about eating well, sleeping well, playing well, and resting well. That's what I think wellness is.

But when it comes to work, it's about the former... you have to work hard and do well.

Q. Doing well vs. doing it excellently... It’s such a great insight.

From your perspective on wellness, I'm curious about your personal thoughts on running, CrossFit, and now Hyrox.

A.

I think it's an extension of doing things well.

When doing different exercises, instead of focusing on the numbers that prove something, I focus on whether I'm truly enjoying it.

For me, exercise isn't an area where I have to absolutely excel; it falls into the realm of playing well.

So I approach it by thinking of it as a way and means to have fun.

For example, I participated in a half marathon again.

My main goal for the half marathon was actually just to finish it. Running under the clear sky, passing Gyeongbokgung, looking at the lined trees— I enjoyed all of it, including the supporters cheering along the Cheonggyecheon.

When I enjoy the process like that, the outcome seems more satisfying.

When I look back at times when I obsessed over numbers and couldn't enjoy the process, those results weren't satisfying later on.

So for me, playing well and just enjoying is the most wellness.

(To be continued)

Q. So we've explored Ye-Rang's wellness journey, now let's talk about Lululemon where you work!

When I visit a Lululemon store, it always seems like a place where people who are genuinely happy are working.

As someone who's seen it firsthand, greeting guests with a smile doesn't seem easy. I'm very curious about the mindset that makes all this possible.

A.

So I think I work out to build that kind of stamina.

And on the floor, I look in the mirror a lot—since you can't be blank-faced when greeting guests. Even if it's not a big laugh, I try to have a smile.

When the store is busier than usual and we start to look tired, we share a funny story over our walkies. Like, someone says, "Oh, I love that outfit, please offer a compliment." Then we smile and tell jokes, and when someone gets praised by a guest, we all clap together at work.

This leads to us clapping spontaneously, even while working...

Once, I suggested we each compliment one team member that came to work today, as a relay. Everyone really appreciated it.

Thanks to educators like Ye-Rang, there are more healthy people wearing good quality clothing. That's rewarding and valuable work.
